Here’s our latest weather outlook for India

5-Day Nationwide Forecast

A monsoon trough lies along the northern plains and a cyclonic circulation is located on the trough. The cyclonic circulation is currently located over northeastern Madhya Pradesh. The system will gradually move eastward over the next two days contributing to strengthening of the southwesterly winds into Northeast India.

As per the India Meteorological Department, widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy fall is likely over parts of Northeast India, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the next five days. The wet weather conditions are likely to intensify over the region due to the prevalence of stronger southwesterly or southerly winds from the Bay of Bengal from August 11. Some parts of the regions may also experience isolated heavy to very heavy falls in the region on August 11, 12 and 13.

Rainfall over Northeast India is expected to intensify from mid-week with a five-day accumulation around 200 mm in some areas.

As the cyclonic circulation moves away to the east, the northwesterly winds will get predominant over the Punjab plains bringing a respite to the rain. As per the IMD, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is expected over Uttarakhand, northern parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal during the next 4-5 days.

On the other hand, subdued rainfall is very likely over Peninsular India, including Maharashtra and Gujarat state—excluding Kerala, Mahe and Tamil Nadu, where isolated heavy falls have been forecast during the next 4-5 days.

The maximum temperatures are noted to be 4 to 8 °C higher than normal across southwestern parts of the peninsula through this forecast period.

Lastly, the overnight minimums will be above normal across the Himalayan region during this period.
