Here’s the weather outlook for the next two days

Friday (August 5)

  • Heavy rains are expected to lash South and West India, Himalayan foothills and the Deccan Plateau.
  • Extremely heavy falls are likely over Coastal and South Interior Karnataka.
  • Very heavy showers are possible over Madhya Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Konkan, Goa, North Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe.
  • Widespread rainfall with thunderstorms are likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep.
  • Fairly widespread rains with thunderstorms are likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha, West Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat Region and Vidharbha.
  • Scattered showers with thunderstorms are likely over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, West Rajasthan, Saurashtra, Kutch, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
  • Shallow to moderate fog is possible in isolated parts of South India in the morning hours.

  • Heavy rains are likely to lash South and West India, Himalayan foothills and the Deccan Plateau.

  • Widespread showers with thunderstorms are likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep.

Westerly winds from the Arabian Sea will produce heavy rain over South India and West India for several days. The rains will peak on Friday with extremely heavy falls of 100 mm over Coastal and South Interior Karnataka.

Meanwhile, the monsoon trough and embedded multiple cyclonic circulations will produce heavy rains along the Himalayan foothills, located at the northern edge of the trough, and over the Decan Plateau and adjoining areas in the southern portions of the trough for several days.

Rains will increase in coverage over Central Highland and intensify toward the weekend as a cyclonic circulation off the coast of Odisha will further intensify.

As for mercury levels, the maximum temperatures will be near or above normal over India during this projection period, well below normal over south Peninsular India through Friday and early next week. The minimum temperatures will be slightly above normal over India during the period, while Western Himalayan Region will experience significantly warmer than normal nighttime lows.
