Forecast summary for the next five days

Rainfall accumulation forecast over the next three days from Tuesday to Friday morning (TWC Met Team)

Rainfall accumulation forecast over the next three days from Tuesday to Friday morning

(TWC Met Team)

The depression over Madhya Pradesh is likely to weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area (WML) on Tuesday as it will continue tracking west-northwestwards. Under the influence of this system and the monsoon trough, very heavy rainfall (≧115mm/day) is possible over Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over Northwest Bay of Bengal around Friday. It is expected to track west-northwestwards, leading to renewed rainfall activity from Odisha and the adjoining area. The centre of the activity is expected to transition to the west, producing very heavy rainfall (≧115mm/day) over Odisha on Thursday and Friday, East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh Saturday and Sunday.

An off-shore trough running from Gujarat to the Kerala coast is likely to produce scattered rain over the west coast of South Peninsular India in this period, mainly over Coastal Karnataka.

As for mercury levels, the maximum temperatures are forecast to be well below normal in Northwestern India in this period and slightly lower than normal in Eastern India from Friday onward, while higher than normal in other areas. In South India, temperatures are forecast to be more than 5°C above normal in this period, where rainfall activity is expected to subside somewhat. Minimum temperatures will be slightly higher than normal in the Himalayan region and in some areas of South India, while near normal in other areas.
