5-Day Nationwide Forecast

A well-marked low-pressure system is located over west Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday through early next week. At the southwestern side of this system, northwesterly winds wrapping around the low and westerly winds blowing in from the Arabian Sea will converge to produce downpours with 100-150 mm daily rainfall across east Rajasthan and west Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday. The rainfall is expected to ease by Thursday while moderate rain with daily rainfall of 30 mm will continue for several days.

Onshore winds are expected to bring incessant rains with 30-50 mm daily accumulation across west coastal regions through early next week.

On the other hand, a cyclonic circulation stalls over Bangladesh. While active rain areas are confined to the southern side of this system, East and Northeast India will receive persistent moderate to locally heavy rain for several days. The rain activity is expected to increase from Friday. The total rainfall amount accumulation is likely around 100-150 mm during this projection period.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the current spell of scattered to fairly widespread rainfall activity is expected to continue over the rest parts of North India during the next five days. Some places of Uttarakhand and west Uttar Pradesh may also experience isolated heavy falls in this period. Meanwhile, isolated light to moderate rain has been forecast across Punjab during the next five days. The adjoining places Haryana and Himachal Pradesh are likely to witness isolated heavy falls during the next two days.

The maximum temperatures will be above to well above normal across much of India throughout this week except east Rajasthan and west Madhya Pradesh. Lastly, the minimum temperatures will be near or above normal across India for several days. The warmer trend is notable across the West Himalayan regions.

  • Heavy rains are expected to lash parts of West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Bihar, west Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Konkan, Goa and Madhya Maharashtra.
  • Widespread rains with thunderstorms are possible over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, West Bengal, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, east Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Konkan, Goa and coastal Karnataka.
  • Fairly widespread rains with thunderstorms are likely over Jharkhand, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, east Madhya Pradesh, Vidharbha, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep.
  • Scattered rains with thunderstorms are possible over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra and interior Karnataka.
  • Isolated rains with thunderstorms are likely over Punjab, west Rajasthan, Saurashtra, Kutch, Marathawada, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
  • Maximum temperatures are noted to be above 40°C in some places of Rajasthan.

  • Very heavy rains are expected over parts of Uttarakhand and east Rajasthan.
  • Heavy rains are likely over parts of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, west Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and west Madhya Pradesh.
  • Widespread rains with thunderstorms are possible over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Konkan, Goa and Coastal Karnataka.
  • Fairly widespread rains with thunderstorms are likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, west Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, east Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep.
