The third attempt at assassination of former president Donald Trump narrowly failed Saturday when police arrested an armed man outside Trump’s Coachella Valley rally, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco said. The offender was found armed with weapons and false IDs a mile from the rally site.

Vem Miller, the suspect was pulled over at a checkpoint about a half a mile from the rally entrance. Miller was holding a loaded shotgun, a handgun and a loaded magazine, according to the Riverside Press-Enterprise. And, of course, he carried forged press and VIP passes, making the police suspicious.

“We probably stopped another assassination attempt,” Sheriff Bianco said in his public apology following the shooting.

Miller, who is a UCLA graduate and ran for Nevada State Assembly in 2022, was charged with carrying a loaded firearm and large magazine. He was later released on $5,000 bail, according to police reports.

Investigators believe that Miller was part of a Right-wing anti-government conspiracy and was planning to kill the former president. This is the third confirmed assassination attempt on Trump, who has had increasing security risks during his campaign.

The investigation continues, and authorities have not revealed any further information about the suspect’s ties or motivation.
