5-Day Nationwide Forecast

The monsoon trough—an extended low-pressure area that drives monsoon rains—lies close to the foothills of the Himalayas. Therefore, most parts of the country may witness subdued rainfall over the next two days.

A cyclonic circulation lies over the west-central Bay of Bengal on Sunday and is forecast to move west-northwestward over the next five days. The circulation could arrive over the Odisha coast on Tuesday, over Chhattisgarh on Wednesday and reach around east Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas on Thursday.

The system brings fairly widespread to widespread rain with isolated heavy rain and thunderstorm over eastern and central India in this period. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely over isolated places of a) Odisha on Monday and Tuesday; b) Andhra Pradesh on Monday; c) Telangana on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Southerly winds from the Bay of Bengal brings humidity over northeastern India. Fairly widespread to widespread rain with isolated heavy rain and thunderstorm are likely over the region in this period. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely over isolated places of Assam, Meghalaya and Sikkim on Sunday.

An offshore trough persists off the western coast from Maharashtra to Kerala. Fairly widespread to widespread rain and thunderstorm are likely over coastal Maharashtra, Goa, coastal Karnataka and Kerala in this period. Heavy rain is likely over isolated places of coastal Maharashtra and Goa from Tuesday onwards.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also forecast scattered to fairly widespread rains across the Western Himalayan Region till Tuesday, with isolated heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand on Sunday.

Maximum temperatures are higher than normal over western, central, eastern and southern India on Sunday and Monday. Maximum temperatures could stay below normal around Andhra Pradesh and Telangana from Monday onwards due to heavy rain. Higher temperatures prevail across southern India except for Andhra Pradesh in this period. Minimum temperatures are slightly higher than normal over the Western Himalayan Region, northeastern India, Kerala and Tamil Nadu in this period.

  • Heavy to very heavy rain is likely over isolated places of Assam, Meghalaya and Sikkim.
  • Heavy rain is expected over isolated places of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
  • Widespread rain and thunderstorms are forecast over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sikkim, Odisha, coastal Maharashtra, Goa, coastal Karnataka, Kerala and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
  • Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms are possible over West Bengal, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh and Lakshadweep.
  • Scattered rain and thunderstorms are likely over Bihar, east Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, east Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and interior Karnataka.
  • Isolated rain and thunderstorms are possible over west Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, west Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, interior Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

Monday

  • Heavy to very heavy rains are forecast over isolated places of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
  • Heavy rain is likely over isolated places of Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
  • Widespread rain and thunderstorms are expected over Sikkim, Odisha, Jharkhand, coastal Maharashtra, Goa, coastal Karnataka and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
  • Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms are forecast over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, interior Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep.
  • Scattered rain and thunderstorms are possible over Bihar, east Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, east Madhya Pradesh and interior Maharashtra.
  • Isolated rain and thunderstorms are forecast over west Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, east Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
