Flood Advisory for… Southeastern Amelia County in central Virginia… Southeastern Chesterfield County in central Virginia… The City of Colonial Heights in central Virginia… Northern Dinwiddie County in south central Virginia… East Central Nottoway County in south central Virginia…

Until 700 AM EDT.

At 456 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen.

Some locations that will experience flooding include… Colonial Heights, Blackstone, Virginia State University, Chester, Sutherland, Wilsons, Matoaca, Spainville, Ettrick, Walkers, Church Road, Ford, Ammon, Hebron, Addison, North Wellville, Wellville and Clay Store.

Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
