5-Day Nationwide Forecast

The southwest monsoon withdrawal line continues to pass through Dwarka, Mehsana, Udaipur, Kota, Gwalior, Hardoi and Lat. 30°N/Long. 81°E. Conditions are becoming favourable for further withdrawal of monsoon from some more parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh during the next two days.

According to the IMD, a cyclonic circulation lies over north Andaman Sea & neighbourhood between 3.1 & 5.8 km above mean sea level. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is very likely to form over the same region during the next 48 hours. It is likely to become more marked and move west-northwestwards, towards south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts during the subsequent 4-5 days.

Light to moderate rains at most places with isolated thundersquall (wind speed 50-60 kmph) and heavy to very heavy falls are expected over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the next 24 hours, followed by isolated thunderstorms (wind speed 40-50 kmph) and heavy falls during the subsequent four days.

Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation lies over east-central Arabian Sea and extends up to mid-tropospheric levels, tilting southwestwards with height. It is very likely to persist during the next 4-5 days.

Under its influence, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rains are very likely over southern peninsular India and Maharashtra during the next 5 days. Isolated heavy falls may also lash Maharashtra, South Interior Karnataka and Kerala & Mahe during the next 4 days; and Coastal Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal during 10th-12th.

As for the mercury levels, both daytime and nighttime temperatures will be extreme or quite higher than normal over much of the Western Himalayan region, in southern Sikkim, and the northeastern end of the North East (Arunachal Pradesh) at least until late October.

  • Isolated heavy falls have been forecast across Maharashtra, South Interior Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe, Coastal Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.
  • Scattered thunderstorms are possible over Lakshadweep & Little Andaman (South Andaman district).
