5-Day Nationwide Forecast

The axis of the monsoon trough runs over Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Assam and Nagaland on Saturday morning. The west end of the trough is likely to shift northward and reach north Rajasthan on Sunday. Meanwhile, the monsoon trough will persist and intensify over Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and northwest Bay of Bengal from Sunday to Tuesday.

A cyclonic circulation could form over west Uttar Pradesh on Sunday morning and move northwestward, bringing widespread rains with isolated heavy rain and thunderstorms over north-central and northern India from Sunday.

Further, isolated heavy to extremely heavy rain is likely over Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, Uttarakhand on Sunday and Monday, and Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on Monday. Isolated heavy to very heavy rain is also expected over Bihar on Saturday and Sunday, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab on Monday and Tuesday, Uttarakhand on Saturday and Monday, Himachal Pradesh from Sunday to Tuesday, Haryana and east Rajasthan on Sunday and Monday, and Delhi on Sunday.

Meanwhile, another cyclonic circulation is likely to form over northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining areas off the Odisha coast on Wednesday evening.

A cyclonic circulation over Northeastern India along with southerly winds from the Bay of Bengal will bring humidity over the Northeast. Accordingly, fairly widespread to widespread rains with isolated heavy rains and thunderstorms are likely over the region in this period. Isolated heavy to very heavy rains will bombard Sikkim from Saturday to Monday, and Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya on Sunday.

On the other side, an offshore trough off Kerala coast to Maharashtra coast and westerly winds from the Arabian Sea will bring in humidity over Southern and Western India. Therefore, fairly widespread to widespread rains with isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely over the region. Isolated heavy to extremely heavy rain is on the cards over coastal Karnataka on Saturday and Maharashtra and Goa on Sunday and Monday. Moreover, isolated heavy to very heavy rain is also possible over coastal Maharashtra and Goa on Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday, over coastal Karnataka on Sunday and Monday, over interior Karnataka and Kerala on Saturday and Sunday, and over interior Maharashtra on Tuesday.

As for the mercury levels, the maximum temperatures will be below normal over north-central India and the plain areas of Northern India in this period. They will also be slightly below normal over Andhra Pradesh and adjoining areas in this period, but higher than average over Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas on Saturday, and across the west coast and Southern India in this period. Other areas will be near normal.

On the flip side, the minimum temperatures will be lower than normal over north-central India and adjoining areas from Sunday onwards, but higher than normal over the Western Himalayan Region. Other areas will be near normal.

  • Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over isolated places of Uttarakhand, Bihar, Sikkim, coastal Maharashtra, Goa, Interior Karnataka and Kerala.
  • Heavy rainfall is on the cards over isolated places of Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, interior Maharashtra, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu.
  • Widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, coastal Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
  • Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, interior Maharashtra, Telangana and Lakshadweep.
  • Scattered rains and thunderstorms have been predicted over West Bengal, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, east Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
  • Isolated rain and thunderstorms are possible over Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, west Rajasthan and Gujarat.
  • Maximum temperatures are likely to be above 40°C over isolated places of west Rajasthan.

  • Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is likely over isolated places of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, interior Maharashtra and coastal Maharashtra and Goa.
  • Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over isolated places of Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, East Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka and Kerala.
  • Heavy rainfall is possible over isolated places of Jammu, Punjab, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.
  • Widespread rains and thunderstorms are on the horizon over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, coastal Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
  • Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms have been forecast over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal, Odisha, east Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, interior Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Lakshadweep.
