The weather has remained partly cloudy in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 24 hours, and the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecasts indicate that the region is in for rain and thunderstorms on Friday as well.

“Today, rain/thunderstorms are expected at many places of Kashmir and at scattered places of Jammu, especially hilly areas,” the bulletin read.

Same weather is likely to prevail for the next few days. Intermittent rain/thunderstorms are likely at many places of J&K from May 21-24. A temporary respite from hot weather, especially in the plains of Jammu, during the above period.

Srinagar had 13.2°C, Pahalgam 8°C and Gulmarg 6.4°C as the minimum temperature.

Drass in the Ladakh region had 5.1°C, Leh 5.6°C and Kargil 7.6°C as the night’s lowest temperature.

Jammu had 28.6°C, Katra 25.2°C, Batote 15.4°C, Banihal 11.6°C and Bhaderwah 12.7°C as the minimum temperature.

Meanwhile, on Friday, May 20, a man died from a lightning strike in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.

Police said a man identified as Irshad Ahmad of Satelan village in Poonch was struck by lightning in the morning at his home.

“He fell unconscious and was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead”, police said.
