5-Day Nationwide Forecast

Dry weather will prevail over most of India during this week, while a trough over Northeast India will produce continuous wet days across Arunachal Pradesh and adjoining areas through Thursday with daily rainfall of 20-30 mm or high elevation snowfall of 20-30 cm each day.

Meanwhile, a fresh western disturbance will produce light to moderate rain or snow across Western Himalayan Region this weekend.

Cold wave condition is possible in isolated pockets of North, Central and West India for several days, especially severe over North and Central India on Tuesday and North India on Wednesday.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cold day to severe cold day condition is likely in some pockets of west Madhya Pradesh during the next 2 days; over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and east Madhya Pradesh during the next 2 days. Moreover, Uttarakhand, west Uttar Pradesh, Saurashtra and Kutch are in for similar conditions for the next 24 hours.

IMD adds that cold wave to severe cold wave condition is expected over isolated pockets of Saurashtra & Kutch during the next 24 hours and over Rajasthan on January 27- 28. Cold waves will also sweep over isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh from January 25 to 29. An orange alert has been issued over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, west MP and UP for today. This alert by IMD urges residents to be prepared for the cold conditions.

In terms of mercury levels, maximum temperatures will be well below normal across the northern half of India during this week with less than 20°C highs. The Western Himalayan region is expected to witness significantly warmer than average maximum temperatures.

Minimum temperatures are likely to be well below normal across Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas for several days. Cold nighttime temperatures will expand southeastward into Telangana and Odisha on Thursday and Friday. Meanwhile, significantly warmer nighttime temperatures will persist across the Western Himalayan region through the week.

  • Fairly widespread rain or snow is likely over Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Scattered rains with thunderstorms are possible over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
  • Isolated rain or snow is likely over Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
  • Isolated rains with thunderstorms are possible over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttarakhand, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
  • Dense to very dense fog is possible at isolated places of North, Central and East India in the morning hours. Dense fog is also set to blanket isolated places of Northeast India in the morning hours.
  • Severe cold wave condition is possible over isolated pockets of Saurashtra and Kutch. Cold wave condition is expected over isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat Region.

  • Scattered rains with thunderstorms are possible over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
  • Isolated rains with thunderstorms are expected over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Uttarakhand, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe.
  • Dense fog is possible at isolated places of East and Northeast India in the morning hours.
  • Severe cold wave condition is set to grip isolated pockets of Rajasthan. Cold wave condition is expected over isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, west Uttar Pradesh, west Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat Region.
