Dogs bring immense joy into our lives and make us smile until our cheeks ache, filling our dreary existence with light. Comedians also do a similar job, making us giggle with their witty rejoinders and offering a welcome break from our monotonous days. It only makes sense that a comedian and a dog would find happiness with each other.
On the occasion of International Dog Day, we found one such dog-comic duo whose story will surely bring a smile to your face!
The Weather Channel India brings to you a heartwarming tale of Sahil Shah—a prominent face of the Indian stand-up scene—and Bagel, his rescue.
Sahil Shah is one of the founding members of East India Comedy and has done over 900 shows nationally and internationally. This versatile comedian is now a full-time pet parent to a one-eyed wonder called Bagel.
Sahil and his wife, Meghana, have previously fostered many dogs. “Last year, I rescued a dog from a petrol pump, called him Diesel, fostered him, and found him a home. Then we fostered another dog called Gin and found her a home,” he said.
Sahil and Meghana were looking for another dog to foster when they came across a photo that the World For All Animal Care and Adoptions had put up. It was a 45-day-old pup whose eye had been plucked out by a crow. And while the couple donated funds to the organisation for the puppy’s upkeep, Meghana was very taken with him and insisted on fostering him. However, fate had other plans, and that pup became a permanent part of Sahil and Meghana’s lives.
When asked about his favourite thing about Bagel, Sahil couldn’t stop gushing about how Bagel is the sweetest, smartest and most loving dog he has ever come across.
“He is the most adorable little thing. And he’s handsome, he’s even come on a magazine cover!” bragged the proud pet-parent. “He’s done more than I’ve done in my life,” he joked.
Sahil says that Bagel doesn’t need to be pitied. Quoting his wife, he said, “he has one eye but double the love.”
He also spoke about the importance of adopting a dog—especially an indie or an older dog—and giving them a home. “Adopt, don’t shop. Rescue a life,” Sahil said.
While most people prefer foreign breeds and other cuter-looking breeds, Sahil and Meghana want to promote the adoption of indies and prove to the world that “amazing things can happen with the right amount of love”.
Sahil and Meghana are currently fostering a kitten and looking for a forever home for it. Until then, Bagel has a sibling!
