Hurricane Ida Evacuations in Louisiana, Mississippi: Where They’re Mandatory and Optional | The Weather Channel – Articles from The Weather Channel

Mandatory and voluntary evacuations are in effect for many areas in southern Louisiana and Mississippi ahead of Hurricane Ida.

Where shelters are open, COVID-19 protocols apply – including Louisiana’s statewide mask mandate.

Here’s a running list of evacuations so far:

Louisiana

-Areas of New Orleans outside of the levee system, including the communities of Lake Catherine, Irish Bayou and Venetian Isles, were ordered to evacuate Friday. The rest of Orleans Parish is under a voluntary evacuation.

Grand Isle in Jefferson Parish is under a mandatory evacuation order. Evacuation centers are set to open Saturday at noon in Lafourche Parish at Central Lafourche High School and Thibodaux High School. Evacuees should bring their own sleeping bags and food. For questions, call 985-446-8427.

-Jean Lafitte, Lower Lafitte, Crown Point and Barataria, also in Jefferson Parish, are under a voluntary evacuation.

-In Terrebonne Parish, residents living in evacuation zones 1 and 2 are being told to leave. Those in zones 3 and 4 are advised to do so. The parish is about 60 miles southwest of New Orleans.

-An evacuation order was issued for the East Bank of Plaquemines Parish and the West Bank of Plaquemines Parish from Phillips 66 Alliance Refinery to Venice. A shelter will be open in West Monroe and buses will run for those who need transportation.

-A voluntary evacuation was issued for residents in Lafourche Parish, especially those in mobile homes, recreational vehicles or low-lying areas.

-Officials recommended that businesses and their employees leave Port Fourchon at the southern tip of the Lafourche Parish.

Mississippi

-The harbormaster in Gulfport ordered that all boats be removed from the water at the Municipal Marina’s slips and Bert Jones Yacht Basin.
