LAKE CITY, Fla. (AP) — A Columbia County 17-year-old died of COVID-19 just days before she was supposed to start her senior year of high school.
Jo’Keria Graham loved taking care of kids and was very close with her grandparents, she called to check on them every day.
Graham was quarantined in her Lake City home after testing positive for the virus, as reported by the AP.
Her family said she seemed to be getting better when she collapsed in the bathroom, earlier this month.
“She was saying, ‘I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe,” her grandmother Tina Graham said Friday.
“We thought she was doing fine. Both of my sons had it and one of my sons was really really sick and she wasn’t near as sick as he was.”
The teen was buried in her cap and gown.
Columbia County now leads Florida in COVID-19 cases per capita.
