Coronavirus in Oregon: 23 deaths, 1,580 new cases; slow easing expected

Oregon reported 23 new COVID-19 deaths Friday and 1,580 new cases. The Oregon Health Authority released a new forecast predicting a continued decline in daily cases and hospitalizations through mid-October.

Based on transmission rates, the agency predicts an average of between 1,050 and 1,275 new cases daily between Oct. 13 and Oct. 26.

Who died: Oregon’s 3,960th COVID-19 related death is a 76-year-old Jackson County woman who tested positive Aug. 31 and died Sept. 23 at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Oregon’s 3,961st fatality is a 32-year-old Douglas County man who tested positive Aug. 27 and died Oct. 6 at Oregon Health & Science University Hospital. He had no underlying conditions.

Oregon’s 3,962nd death is a 43-year-old Douglas County woman who tested positive Sept. 10 and died Oct. 7 at her residence.

Oregon’s 3,963rd death is a 72-year-old Coos County man who tested positive Sept. 25 and died Oct. 6 at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend.

Oregon’s 3,964th death is an 82-year-old Coos County man who tested positive Sept. 22 and died Oct. 5 at his residence.

Oregon’s 3,965th death is a 91-year-old Coos County man who tested positive Sept. 18 and died Oct. 3 at his residence.

Oregon’s 3,966th death is a 95-year-old Coos County woman who tested positive Sept. 24 and died Oct. 6 at Bay Area Hospital.

Oregon’s 3,978th death is a 75-year-old Lane County man who tested positive Sept. 21 and died Oct. 5 at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend.

Oregon’s 3,979th death is a 78-year-old Lane County man who tested positive July 30 and died Aug. 6 at his residence.

Oregon’s 3,980th death is an 86-year-old Lake County man who tested positive Oct. 1 and died Oct. 4 at St. Charles Bend Hospital.

Oregon’s 3,981st death is a 64-year-old Klamath County man who tested positive Sept. 29 and died Oct. 6 at Sky Lakes Medical Center.

Oregon’s 3,982nd COVID-19 related death is a 66-year-old Klamath County woman who tested positive Sept. 20 and died Oct. 6 at Sky Lakes Medical Center.

Except as noted, each person had underlying health conditions or officials are confirming if conditions were present.

Hospitalizations: 656 people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 are hospitalized, down 43 from Thursday. That includes 167 people in intensive care, six fewer than Tuesday. There are 48 available adult ICU beds out of 688 total (7% availability) and 294 available adult non-ICU beds out of 4,229 (7% availability).

Vaccines: Oregon reported 3,073 people vaccinated for the first time.

Since it began: Oregon has reported 341,113 confirmed or presumed infections and 3,982 deaths. To date, the state has reported 5,236,053 doses administered, fully vaccinating 2,546,757 people and partially vaccinating 218,695 people.
