5-Day Nationwide Forecast

A low-pressure is likely to stay over northwestern Madhya Pradesh through early next week. On the southwestern side of this system, parts of east Rajasthan and west Madhya Pradesh are expected to receive heavy rains on Friday. The daily accumulation is expected to be around 80-100 mm, while possible isolated could be 150 mm.

The monsoon trough expanding from the low pressure over Madhya Pradesh southeastward to West Bengal and the north Bay of Bengal will produce persistent moderate to locally heavy rain across Central and East India for several days.

The southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal are expected to flow into Northeast India. Therefore, the rain activity is expected to strengthen from Friday night to next week. The daily rainfall accumulation of 30-50 mm is likely to continue through at least the middle of next week. As per IMD, fairly widespread rains with isolated heavy falls is possible over Northeast states until August 9, while the rainfall activity is expected to enhance from August 10.

Onshore winds are likely to bring continuous showers across western coastal regions for several days, especially for coastal Karnataka and Kerala. Maximum daily rainfall is noted around 30-50 mm on Friday and Saturday, thereafter, 10-20 mm from Sunday onward.

Lastly, the maximum temperatures will be above to well above normal across much of India through the next week except east Rajasthan and west Madhya Pradesh.

The minimum temperatures are noted to be near or above normal across India for several days. The warmer trend is notable across the West Himalayan region.

  • Heavy rains are expected over parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha, Jharkhand, west Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, east Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, coastal Karnataka and Kerala.
  • Widespread rains with thunderstorms are likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal, west Madhya Pradesh, Konkan, Goa, coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep.
  • Fairly widespread rains with thunderstorms are possible over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, west Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, east Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and south interior Karnataka.
  • Scattered rains with thunderstorms are likely over Arunachal Pradesh, east Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, east Rajasthan, Madhya Maharashtra, Vidharbha and north interior Karnataka.
  • Isolated rains with thunderstorms are expected over Punjab, west Rajasthan, Gujarat, Marathawada, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
  • Maximum temperatures are noted to be above 40°C in some places of Rajasthan.
  • Saturday

  • Heavy rains are expected over parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, west Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, west Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe.
  • Widespread rains with thunderstorms are likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, west Madhya Pradesh, Konkan, Goa, coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep.
  • Fairly widespread rains with thunderstorms are possible over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, east Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and south interior Karnataka.
  • Scattered rains with thunderstorms are likely over Odisha, east Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra, Vidharbha and north interior Karnataka.
